  • Laugh for Lives (San Fran) / Wondercon | 03/08/09

First of all….What up with this weather??  We had a snowstorm on Monday and now its like 70 degrees.  Weird!

Congrats to Quest Crew for winning America’s Best Dance Crew.  They did an awesome job.  However a very poor job by ABDC Pyrotechnician.  LOL…a premature blast during the awards ceremony… I bet he’s bad with women..LOL

Anyways, last week I was in San Francisco to host Asian-American Donar Program’s 2nd Annual Laugh for Lives.  The event was held at the prestigious Palace of Fine Arts Theatre with an amazing line up of comedians.  This was a very important show to me because of the cause: raising awareness for bone marrow donations within the Asian American Community.  Im glad the show got alot of people to register.  Please visit there site for more info and register yourself to be a donar..because you can save a life! www.aadp.org

The next day I went to Wondercon in SF.  Kinda like Comiccon in NY.  Traders, Vendors, Artists.  From DC comics, to marvel, to starwars, to GI Joe…it had it all.  The characters i saw walking down were hysterical.  Some guy dressed up in full Transformers BUmblebee gear….i bet going to the bathroom is impossible.  I took some pics.  Enjoy!

Then that night I performed at The Purple Onion on Susan Alexander’s Five Funny Series.  She produces and hosts: Five Funny Females, Five Funny Friends, Five Funny Fags….and the show I was on was called Five Funny Filipinos.  Great show!  The next day I flew back into NY and we had a snow storm :(  Man I miss Cali!!

    Chicago / MAFA / Love me Again | 02/23/09

This past Friday I flew into Chicago for the 13th Annual MAFA Conference and had a great time.  What’s MAFA?  MAFA stands for Midwest Filipinos of Filipino Americans.  And they have conferences every year to To promote closer unity and cooperation amongst Filipino and Filipino Americans around the Midwest by promoting Filipino culture and Asian American awareness, coordinating meetings and events, and through further support of the MAFA organizations. (yeah I copied and pasted this…LOL)

This was my first time in Chicago and its definitely different than new york.  Clean everything.  The Road, the streets…and  the subway…oh excuse me…I mean the CTA.  lol but I was kinda of disappointed of the weather…LOL….no wind…not even a breeze..LOL.  Everybody keeps telling me how windy it is there and I so wanted to the experience of getting blown…..LOL thats what she said!  nyuck nyuck.

ok ok …the show was at the University of Illinois.  I as very impressed how organized everything was.  I saw alot of time and effort was put into the whole event.  The crowd was really supportive and awesome!  Thank you Samantha, Patrick, Alex, Jon, EJ for inviting me and for welcoming me and putting it all together.  And thank you to all the Mid West Pinoys/Pinays for laughing :)  (add me on FACEBOOK!)  I figured out how to make a badge…lol

Ok so After the show I treated myself to a the Famous DEEP DISH Pizza at Giordanos…YUM!! (see pics below)  After stuffing my face…I started to freak out cuz I head a storm was rolling in Chicago and I had to catch the premiere of LOVE ME AGAIN…the next day.  Luckily I caught my flight.

Back in New Jersey I watched the premiere of LOVE ME AGAIN.  Starring the dream team power couple of Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual.   The movie was presented by the good ol SCAT Productions (www.scatproductionsnyc.com), who brought the JABBAWOCKEEZ here before.  As for the movie, it was very sweet.  The whole theatre was packed with Filipinos and I enjoyed the reaction of everyone when Angel and Piolo first kissed…girls got giddy.  And when he tooks his shirt off someone screamed WOW and it was Lola that screamed it…hahaha.  The love making scene in the stable to me was kinda of funny. IT looked very romantic…but come on….wouldn’t it stink in there?  but if you got to do it…you got to do it.  LOL  But the movie was nicely written and the chemisty they have is perfect on screen.  Go see it!  Thank you Satrick and Cathy of Scat Productions for the tix…had a great time (see pics below and me sporting my MAFA shirt!)

    Judging D3 Miss Philippines | 02/03/09

Last Saturday I was invited to judge the second annual D3 Miss Philippines Pageant at Rutgers University Newark.  13 Colleges…and only 1 winner!  What did I think?? Who won??  Who impressed me?  READ ON!!

First of all I definitely like say, I think that its awesome that schools can get together like this for a friendly competition.  I never had these things when I was in college.

So lets begin, they had me sit with the other judges on a long “American idol / ABDC” type judging table with Microphone and all (see photo below).  I thought we had to say a lot but we didn’t.  At first I was like, man do I have to cry like LiL Mama?…LOL  The other judges on the panel were Leilani, (hosted her own show on Radio Pinoy), Calvin (appeared on MTVU and fomer Co-Chair of ECAASU National) and Jackie (winner of Last Year’s Miss Philippines)  The show started a little late cuz Jackie got a little lost in Jersey.  I was kidding with her and said, “yeah right? you just didn’t want to give up your crown” LOL  jk Jackie :)

So the show started with a bang with all the contestants performing a group dance routine.  Once they started, the room was filled with DEAFINING SCREAMS from the audience showing support for their school and their friend or family member in the contest.  (see video below)

Homemade signs were held with the contestants name on it.  Some signs look really good!!!…Others looked like they just Scribbled it two minutes before the show….kinda like those lemonade signs little kids write that you can’t even see!  And other signs….well…..made no sense to me at all, but made me laugh…like a BATMAN vs. SUPERMAN sign. what the???…Is this a pageant? or Comic Con? LOL Its all good.  Its the thought that counts!

But the screams were really LOUD. Everybody shouting and supporting!  Some phrases I heard were:

YEAH CHRISTINE,  GO JAMIE!!..YEAH DYANN! GO PAULINE!! YEAH NOELLE!!…etc.
    I LOVE YOU!!!
    WORK IT GIRL!!!
    YOU’RE SO SEXY!!!
    OWWWWW!!!
    WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!
    WILL YOU MARRY ME??!!!
    MAGANDA!!!!!
AWWWWW SHEYT!!! THAT’S THE NEXT MISS PHILIPPINES RIGHT THERE!…FO SHO! (my favorite)

After all the screaming the show really got started.  First part was traditional wear, then Talent, then evening wear, then Q & A.  I don’t want to get into every section or every performance of else this blog would be super long.  But I will honestly say ALL the contestants did a great job and were very proud of their culture!

On a Side Note:  What was really funny is that the DJ..kept playing “All the Single Ladies” for almost every dance routine.  After the third time I heard it I was like “man…that guy needs to buy more records”  hahahah BUt I understand that it was only fair that they use the same song.  good stuff DJ!

The Q&A portion was tough.  I mean to be put on the spot and answer it.  But, I like how almost every contestant began with a very cheery..”hiiiiiiii guys”….and the crowd responds…”hiiiiiii”….LOL……Anyways, I was looking for the clear precise answer. (no big words cuz I don’t have a dictionary)….Some gave straight answers… but some others had me like…huh?? LOL.    But the effort was definitely there and NOBODY froze on stage or looked nervous They stood their ground and answered it the best they could.

After all the sections and questions it came down to 3:  Miss Stony Brook, Miss Ramapo and Miss NYU…..and the winner is……..

    Miss Stony Brook!

And yes I thought that was a good and fair decision. I really enjoyed her Ballroom dance routine too.

What about the others?  ok so like I said….Im not gonna talk about EVERY contestant (cuz they all did awesome).  And I am not gonna use anyone’s names….just schools.  And you will NOT know my votes. But these are only of some things of just some contestants that I noticed:  Miss Hunter talent performance had an a very nice dance routine to One Republics “apologize”. (starting off with a dramatized telephone call from her fictional man…classic!).  Ms. Baruch with the ”man of all talents” Ron, both had me almost standing with the quick change of dance song and outfits.  Miss Rutgers NB had such a bright and friendly smile.  Miss SJU song and dance felt like I was watching a Broadway play. (love plays) nice!.   Miss Seton Hall I thought had one of the most confident walks in a woman in each dress.  Ms. Ramapo came out with two backup MALE dancers..that was entertaining.  Ms. St. Peters College looked very classy and elegant in both her traditional wear and evening wear. (the umbrella was a nice touch!).  And the other contestants (Miss Stevens, MIss Rutgers Newark, Miss Fairleigh Dickenson, Miss NYU, Miss Mount St. Vincent) did a wonderful job as well!  It was really tough to judge it!  Every school should be proud of their contestant.   In my mind, all of them were winners!

Thank you to Mark and Josh from Rutgers for inviting me to judge.  It was alot fun and enjoyed judging and even more: just watching the pageant …it so much fun that I wanted to be one of those people in the audience SCREAMING!!! LOL…

Comming soon….Jammin Asian Pre-Valentines Day Show Feb 10…(Bring a date and your date is free…see my shows for details).

And OFF TO CHICAGO February 20…Performing at the 13th Annual M.A.F.A. Conference.. wassup MID-WEST!!

Ohio State University Barrio | 10/22/08

I had a really great time performing at Ohio State University for PSA’s Barrio Fiesta. When I arrived in Ohio. I had a really early flight and after I was picked up at the airport I went to rest at the apt of of the PSA’s President. Her mom was there cooking Filipino food and I said hi. It was funny, cuz she thought I was a student or something cuz then she said “who’s picking up that comedian guy?” LOL hahah. Anyways I feel asleep in the living room while she was cooking. When I woke up I smelled like Chicken Adobo. I felt like eating my arm. The campus is enormous! and of course everything is comvered in Buckeyes. The show was fun and I even attended the workshops afterwards. I attened the Filipino Martial Arts/Mixed Martial Arts. After the show and seminar, I headed back to the Hotel….but before that we stopped at this shopping center and outside was the HUGEST Vending machince I have ever seen…I saw the basics…candy, chips, asprin,..then it got weird… Motor Oil?, Spagetti-Os?…wait it gets better…CONDOMS? and PREGNANCY TESTS? Lol I guess some people really can’t wait…would so laugh if they got stuck! Anyways great great time…thank you PSA..(esp. Christine, Chloe, Alex, Anthony, Paul, Jen and others!)
